ERG mode is really only of use below your FTP. So I would recommend that you turn off ERG over 250w (or whatever your FTP is)

I've found them great too.

Nothing to do with the trainer.

Get your speed up as soon as you can, then stop pedalling. Some people back pedal for a few seconds to ensure that the trainer is not transmitting power.

If you are a lightweight rider you will be at a disadvantage.

In answer to the question, don't use ERG mode for high intensity sprints. Same for all trainers.
