Elite Zumo

Hi this question has probably been asked several times. I have the Elite Zumo trainer which isn't easily found now through the elite site. I was wondering can you make an 8 speed cassette work on this trainer for bikes with 2 x 8 gears (16 in total) looking for a cheap road bike and most seem to be 16 speed gears.

If is it possible how best do I go about this
