Why the hub shaft of the Turbo Muin B+ is threaded (right side)

The right hand side of the hub shaft is threaded. I wonder why it is designed that way. I got my Elite Turbo Muin B+ in early 2017 and started using it with my road bike. The threaded metal shaft at the end of the hub of the trainer just slowly wears out the material of the dropout on my bike.. It caused damaging problems because of the wearing. The other side of the metal shaft of the hub is not threaded and did not seem to cause any issue...
I am wondering if I can swap out the shaft. Why the design of the high-end trainer would not be considerate enough to avoid the potential damage to the dropout of uses' road bike..? Is it just me who received a trainer with a faulty installation? or Are they all designed that way? Could I request a new shaft from Elite to switch the one that caused problems?
